Uncanny valley

Uncanny valley

(noun)

A term that refers to unpleasant feeling which some people have when they see robots or a computer-generated figure that appear very similar to a living human being.

Origin of the term comes from a concept that was first introduced in the 1970s by Masahiro Mori, a Japanese roboticist, then a professor at the Tokyo Institute of Technology. He created this term to describe his observation that people find robots more appealing as they appear more humanlike but only to a certain point.
